11:00 a.m. Story time at Barnes & Noble. Be Quiet! In this hilarious new book from acclaimed author Ryan T. Higgins, all Rupert the Mouse wants is to star in a beautiful, wordless picture book. 12:00 p.m. Community Celebration at Holyoke Medical Center. The hospital will host a free community celebration and cookout. This will be an opportunity for the whole family to come and tour the new Emergency Department. In addition to the tour, hamburgers, hotdogs, watermelon and ice cream will be provided. 10:00 a.m. Stars & Stripes Day at the Holyoke Farmer’s Market. Keep on celebrating the 4th of July with us at the Holyoke Farmer’s Market. We will have the Color Guard raise the American flag around 12:00 PM. All are invited to bring your children for activities like face painting, dancing, chalk drawing in the side walk, games, and book readings. Free.

12:00 p.m. Free Lunch For Veterans.  Full meal served (salad, entree, vegetable, dessert and beverage) until 1:30 p.m. Holyoke Veterans Services, 310 Appleton St.

6:35 p.m. Valley Blue Sox vs Upper Valley Nitehawks. Mackenzie Stadium, gates open at 5:30 p.m.. Tickets $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids/seniors. Promotion: Kids eat free. The first 250 kids will receive a hot dog, chips and water. 500 Beech St.

7:00 p.m. Fireworks at HCC. Mayor Alex Morse invites the community to enjoy the annual 4th of July fireworks on Friday July 7th (with a rain-date of July 8th). The event will take place on the grounds of Holyoke Community College and will include family friendly activities and games. We encourage everyone to come early to enjoy the music, food from a variety of vendors as well as many children’s activities. The fireworks display is scheduled to start at dusk. 303 Homestead Ave.
